We are ruby on rails developers, wordpress lovers, graphic designers, entrepreneurs, startups, freelancers, and anyone with a passion for technology and creativity with a need to get out of their house or coffee shop.

Conveniently located
Our coworking space is in the heart of the fan and only 1 block from the vegan food trucks. We drink Blanchard's coffee every day and eat tacos from the Boka Truck on jelly days. 804RVA is proud to host monthly meetups for CVREG (Ruby on Rails), RAUG (Adobe User Group), Wordpress Wednesdays, RVA Data Hackers, and hackathons for education, gaming and many more!

Benjamin Chodroff

Ben manages technical sales at Cloud One which is an IBM business partner who offers software development and project management solutions in an on demand model. He previously worked for IBM in the US and India as a software developer, agile/Scrum Master consultant, and technical sales representative.

Outside of work, he loves digital photography, playing the violin, mixing cocktails, cooking, camping, SCUBA diving, and traveling the world with his girlfriend. His insatiable love of freshly squeezed orange juice knows no bounds.

Brian Bassett

Brian loves the NY Jets and founder of TheJetsBlog.com out of sheer catharsis. Brian is now an Editor for SportsNet New York and has contributed to the NY Times, as well as has been featured in USA Today, Sports Illustrated and Deadspin.

His company, Bassett Media is dedicated to teaching others how to have success by using emerging media to form relationships with influencers, no matter the market.

Crystal Street

Crystal Street’s professional hats include Documentary Photographer, Commercial Multimedia Producer and Writer. Crystal studied visual communications and photojournalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has worked throughout the developing world documenting communities and the cultural preservation of displaced populations. Her documentary and journalism photography work has taken her across the US and around the world to locations including India, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia and Italy.

Her commercial clients include Nissan North America, Whole Foods, Special Olympics, ATMC, Junior Achievement, World Bank, TerraSoft Organics and Oregon Public Broadcasting to name a few. Crystal is also an avid espresso drinker, people watcher, coffee shop hound and loves to get lost for hours in the darkroom.

Dan Kanach

Dan Kanach is the owner of One Duck Creative. He has video production experience on several network reality shows as well as corporate training videos. He has served as Associate Producer and Production Assistant as well as Head Logger on these various productions. One Duck Creative also offers services in design, photography, illustration, and animation. Prior to joining the creative world, Dan was head women's lacrosse coach at Randolph-Macon College and a high school English teacher and coach before that. While at Georgetown University, he majored in both English Literature and Studio Art. His senior project in photography won the Misty Daily Award for best of senior art show. Dan also played men's lacrosse at Georgetown and played in the NCAA Final Four his senior year. Dan then spent the following year at George Washington University getting certified to teach secondary eduction. Dan currently lives in Ashland, VA with his lovely wife Kate and two awesome kids, Darcy and Rowan.

Doug Clark

Musician and tinkerer. Dedicated and persistant. Lifetime student of the arts. Business owner. Takes 2-hour lunches to watch Apple keynotes. Thinks Ruby on Rails is the best thing since sliced bread, but is currently have a small love affair with both Wordpress and CodeIgniter.

Loves well-documented code and APIs (and coffee... lots of coffee). Can talk without getting too nerdy. Spends spare time playing guitar, learning about RSpec, enjoying delicious food, playing Skyrim, and loving on his girlfriend (in no particular order).

Erin Simon

Erin Simon is the Senior Program Officer for Packaging at World Wildlife Fund. At WWF she focuses on the major commodities that go into packaging materials and supports over all sustainable strategy development for packaging systems. Prior to WWF, Erin worked at Hewlett Packard for 10 years as a packaging engineer responsible for the design and implementation of laser jet printer and media packaging. Her expertise is in material science, design innovation, procurement, manufacturing, logistical and point of purchase aspects of packaging. Erin transitioned to WWF in an effort to drive positive change across industries and to help WWF lead that momentum in the packaging sector. Erin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Packaging Engineering from the Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI.

Flip Bowry

Computer guy, dad, husband, genealogist, long distance cyclist, poker player, trivia buff. My brain seems to have an affinity for storing large amounts of useless information and organizing it in ways that make it meaningful.

Dad of two awesome kids, 21 & 16; husband to one of the best oncology nurses on earth; I'm a UVa grad who has been doing IT consulting since before there was such a thing. I've been programming since the early Seventies. I love the challenge and the puzzle-like nature of creating new software or apps or solving IT riddles to the benefit of my clients.

Currently, I am focusing primarily on incorporating new technologies into my clients' stable business platforms. Cloud computing, social media marketing, functional network and internet security, mobile platform computing are just a few of the innovations I have had an opportunity to work with lately.

If there is anything I can do to help or advice I can offer, don't hesitate to ask. When I grow up, I want to be an old blues guitar player like Buddy Guy. I love the Blues.

Janeen Wall

Janeen launched her first business, a recruiting firm, at the age of 20 and is the founder of TruAbility Coaching and Training.

James Kingsley

James has been in the eLearning business for almost 15 years and has been passionate about computers/programming for a lifetime. He loves solving puzzles, knowledge, helping others learn, and anything geeky. This turns out to be the perfect mix for creating innovative and effective eLearning. James is one of only a few people in the industry to be awarded the title of Articulate Hero.

Julia Marquardt

3 Degrees in an environmental commodities sales, trading, and advisory firm. 3Degrees helps organizations buy, sell and market environmental commodities such as Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) and verified carbon offsets.

3Degrees partners with organizations that seek to utilize environmental markets to build value for their customers, employees, investors and other stakeholders.

Jonathan Kuhn, PHD

Jonathan obtained his bachelor’s degree in math at West Virginia University in 1990. Next he attended graduate school at the University of South Carolina, earning his master’s degree in 1993 and his doctorate in 1995. From 1995 through 2000, he was faculty in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at James Madison University.

In the fall of 2000 he joined a start-up company based in Richmond where he trained and lead a group of analysts in Dhaka, Bangladesh. In 2002 he joined the Virginia Institute of Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics at Virginia Commonwealth University. In 2005 he joined First Health Service Corporation which is now known as Magellan Medicaid Administration. Currently he leads a team of biostatisticians and economists who model and trend medical and pharmaceutical utilization data from more than 25 states.

Jeremy Weiland

is a software developer, writer, activist and musician. His paid gig is 6th Density LLC where he works with clients to craft software solutions to business problems. In his spare time he can be found playing music, hiking, coding and writing. He maintains a blog focusing on radical politics, ruby and other matters at Social Memory Complex.

Jeremy is active in Richmond as a coordinator of the Central Virginia Ruby Enthusiasts Group and member of the Richmond Industrial Workers of the World. He maintains leftlibertarian.org as well as springhillrva.org. He enjoys the love and support of his wife, Tasha, and their beagle, Tela.

Joey Figaro

Joey Figaro is a user-experience evangelist who has been known to love (and sometimes shout about) a number of different things. He recently was a part of the winning team at RVA's debut Startup Weekend and is now the Creative Director of Speakeasy, a local company that sprung from the resulting win. Current bearer of the 804RVA title 'Red Button Pusher, Seeker, and Enthusiast,' this man knows a thing or two about lockety locks, whiskey, and quiet-time.

John Anderson

John Anderson is an Associate with edCount, LLC, where he serves as Deputy Project Director a for edCount’s test item development work for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, developing secondary-level test item specifications, test blueprints, and writer guidelines, and training and managing item writer consultants.

John also contributes his editorial expertise to proposals, marketing materials, and technical reports.

Kira Siddall

Kira is a social media specialist and she is inspired by travel and meeting the people of the world.

Kira lives and breathes social media. She had already become a veritable expert on Facebook and Twitter before most of us even knew they existed. As Social Media Specialist, Kira is extraordinarily gifted. And we’re not talking about her ability to craft an eloquent 140-character tweet or her penchant for funny Facebook status updates.

Kira is gifted in her ability to understand people. Using insight that would make the most astute sociologist envious, she is able to develop new, exciting ways that do more than merely reach people. They inspire, engage and motivate people. Twitter notwithstanding, Kira has many followers. She knows how to make the most of every social medium in any situation. And we really do “Like” that.

Larkin Garbee

I drive an urban suburban & I am the founder of 804RVA. I like beer, beets, broomball, blogging, businesses & building websites (not solely because they rhyme).

I own a construction company called James River Tile & Stone Art. I have a few pet projects I am working on and I absolutely love the startup world. Marian Klatt

Marian Klatt is a personal trainer who takes the workout to her clients in their homes, making fitness available to everyone on their own schedule and where they are most comfortable.

She also offers personal yoga instruction and is planning a series of short yoga videos for home viewers. She has been in the fitness field since 2007, teaching Les Mills BodyFlow, BodyPump and CXWorx in addition to yoga at area fitness clubs. Michael Lamberson

I am an entrepreneur and a hacker (more software than hardware-unless duct tape counts). I am currently involved with BitFog in technology development, CiiService inenergy management & mechanical services), EZMService (legal data provider), Scoutly (speeding ticket website), WillowOaks (office building), and woob (CRE management website).

Multilingual (english, GWT, C, php...), still reads /., and still amazed RSS never caught on. My Likes include FOSS, startups and domain names. My dislikes include observation bias, combat drones, and software patents.

I was born in Florida, raised south of RVA, and went to engineering school at UVA. I worked at NASA (though I wasn't an astronaut). Next, I took a job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (where I was not a football player) and later went on to start my current company, BitFog. I have a loving life with my wife Lisa, son Luke (9), daughter Megan (6), and goldendoodle Wally (10).

I am an ex-musician with a degree in Instrumental Music Education and Bassoon Performance from the George Mason University School of Music. I will not play or teach music for money—ever.

After leaving my exhausting corner of the music world, I began a career in the one job that never grew tiresome to me—coffee. I’ve been a barista, a manager, an operations director, a program director, a roaster, a project consultant—you name it—but in January 2011 I was finally able to join forces with my good friend David Blanchard to help take Blanchard’s Coffee Co. to the next level.

I have the coolest job on the face of the planet.

Zach Sisisky

After spending 13 years as an educator for students with disabilities, Zach Sisisky founded Richmond Autism Connection as a place where people on the autism spectrum, their families, and members of their communities could receive individualized support to meet their specific needs. Zach was a public educator for seven years serving middle and high school students with autism in their neighborhood schools. He has provided numerous trainings for teachers, paraprofessionals, and administrators as a Low Incidence Teacher Mentor for Richmond City Public Schools. Further, he has taught and provided teacher and parent trainings about autism in Africa and throughout Asia and also served in the Peace Corps as a teacher and teacher trainer.
